Birth of a Vision
IU Health Jay generously donated property at 422 W Votaw St., Portland, in May of this year to establish a much-needed Recovery Home in Jay County, Indiana. This collaboration comes at a crucial time for the community, which has faced numerous challenges in bringing this vital project to fruition.

Vision on Votaw - Phase One
Phase I of Vision on Votaw is nearly complete!
Vision on Votaw is the future home of PAST Recovery Services’ men’s recovery residence in Portland, Indiana. Once completed, the residence will provide a safe, supportive, recovery-focused living environment for men working to build a strong foundation for long-term recovery.
Phase I is approximately 75% complete, marking an exciting milestone in transforming the property into a place of hope, stability, and new beginnings.
Phase II began July 1, 2026, moving us another step closer to opening the doors of Vision on Votaw. When completed, the residence will house up to 16 men and a live-in house manager and connect residents with peer recovery coaching, recovery support, life-skills development, employment and community resources, transportation assistance, and other services that support long-term recovery.This project is about much more than renovating a building. It is about creating opportunities for individuals to rebuild their lives while strengthening recovery resources right here in our community.

The Vision on Votaw Logo Contest
We were absolutely blown away! The community showed up in a big way with 428 total votes cast! The voting stayed close the whole contest, and thanks to everyone’s participation, every vote truly counted.
Here are the final results:
1st Place: Lacey Robbins – 106 votes
2nd Place: Kenzie Huey – 103 votes
3rd Place: Kim Atkinson – 100 votes
4️th Place: Joella Rinker – 70 votes
5️th Place: Skyler Petty – 49 votes

I chose calming colors for the logo, with a ring around it to give a dreamy look—because this house is a dream come true for many in our community. The birds in the design symbolize freedom, drawing attention to the idea that recovery is a journey to freedom from substance use disorder.”
The final logo design will be completed by Shop Glory Design, Co., our amazing local graphic arts company! We can’t wait to see it in action!

Name it to Claim $250 Contest

We are thrilled to announce the winner of our "Name it to Claim $250" contest! Ensuring the confidentiality of the process, only one employee, Mekayla Nichols, had access to the answer key and was not involved in the voting. Starting with 245 submissions, we carefully narrowed it down to 185 non-repeating names, giving everyone who submitted a repeat the option to submit another new name. From there, we selected the top five finalists, which included:
Upon hearing the news, Shalee expressed her excitement, stating, "What an honor to get to name something so impactful for our community!" We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated in the contest, from the initial submissions to the final votes. Our community's enthusiastic involvement has truly made this a memorable event. Michael Keller, a member of the Opioid Settlement Committee, donated for the contest: "In 2022 I had a dangerous tractor accident. On behalf of Terry and Lois Keller, Lutheran Hospital, Jay County Sheriff's Department & EMS, Portland Police & Fire Department, and Barnett's Wrecker Service.
